John Fereira, Programmer/Analyst Specialist at Mann Library, will describe uPortal at Cornell and how it can be used to personalize library services. John has been working with uPortal for the past two years. He is the acting uPortal documentation coordinator for the Java Architectures Special Interest Group (JA-SIG) uPortal effort.
Metadata comes into play in uPortal as the portal authorizes users to view and access specific content. User-based authorizations can enable customized views of the library for each patron.
John Fereira discussed uPortal and how it can be used to personalize library services. John described in detail Cornell CIT's customized instance of uPortal. (See the PowerPoint for specifics.) John answered questions about how members of the Cornell community should submit requests to CIT to activate services in the Cornell instance of uPortal. John also mentioned that there is a uPortal content development group at Cornell. Those interested in more information about uPortal at Cornell should contact John Fereira <jaf30@cornell.edu>.
Cornell's UPortal Content Working Group typically meets the 3rd Thursday of every Month at 11:00am in CCC-119. If you are interested in joining the listserv (UPORTAL-CONTENT-L@cornell.edu), contact Jon Atherton <jca8@cornell.edu>.
