Description

The OCLC/RLG Working Group on Preservation Metadata:Implementation Stategies (PREMIS) is an international group that has been meeting for more than a year to define core metadata needed by digital preservation repository systems. The metadata must be both implementable and implementation-neutral. The effort has raised interesting issues related to vocabulary, data models, and the semantics of digital preservation.

Priscilla Caplan is the Associate Director, Digital Library Services at the Florida Center for Library Automation. In addition to her other accomplishments, she is the author of "Metadata Fundamentals for All Librarians" (ALA 2003), a contributor to D-Lib magazine, and is the November 2004 keynote speaker at Cornell's Digital Preservation Management Workshop. She is also co-chair of the PREMIS group.
