Sometime this month the Resource Description and Access (RDA) online tool will be released, exposing the RDA guidance instruction to its first worldwide review. In parallel development, the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative/RDA Task Group has registered the RDA Elements, Roles and Vocabularies in provisional form, and IFLA announced plans in August to do the same with the FRBR entities and attributes.
Diane Hillmann, retired from CUL, now Director of Metadata Initiatives for the Information Institute of Syracuse and recently returned from DC-2008 in Berlin, Germany, will discuss the latest news from that venue and consider some questions about what these developments mean for catalogers, technical services administrators, and library vendors (should any be in the room).
This program is jointly sponsored by the Metadata Working Group Steering Committee and the Working Group on Cataloging.
